Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra is an internationally renowned symphony orchestra with a rich history which spans over more than 250 years. Under the direction of Chief Conductor Edward Gardner, the orchestra has a busy concert schedule, a substantial outreach programme and strong international presence through tours, recordings and the concert streaming service BergenPhiLive. The orchestra is owned by Musikkselskapet Harmonien, which also runs Bergen Philharmonic Chorus and Bergen Philharmonic Youth Orchestra.

After an assessment of all the applications and submitted videos, the selected candidates will be invited to audition at the Grieg Hall in Bergen on 28 January 2022.

 

Prequalification round video:

The candidates record a video with the following repertoire: 

- Mozart: Horn Concerto no. 4, 1st movement with cadenza
- Orchestral excerpts can be downloaded here

 

 

The video must be recorded in one continuous take and must not be edited. The order should be as listed above.

In order to guarantee that the recording has not been edited, it is important to ensure that the candidate is visible throughout the take. You can take your time in between the pieces, and you can tune your instrument if necessary, but the camera must be on the whole time.

Smartphones are adequate for recording Ensure that there is a suitable distance between the microphone and the instrument and use landscape mode. The whole instrument should be visible.

The video must be uploaded on YouTube, mark it as ‘not listed’ and paste the link to the video in the application form below. Videos submitted in any other way will be rejected.

Program: 

- Mozart: Horn Concerto no 4, 1st movement with cadenza
- R. Strauss: Horn Concerto no 1, 1st movement
- Orchestral excerpts can be downloaded here
- Chamber music will be announced after the prequalifying round

The candidates record a video of the following repertoire:

• Mozart violin concerto no. 3, 4 or 5 (first movement without cadenza)  with or without accompaniment.
